Starlina helped her mother into her bed after getting her home from the hospital. She hated the fact that her mother had sat in the emergency room for 8 hours all alone. Wanda had broken her ankle in three places, and had to undergo surgery on it the next day. “Momma, I think it’s time that you consider moving in with me and the kids.” Starlina placed a pillow under her mother’s leg to elevate it. “I’m not moving in with you and the kids. I’m getting old, but I’m not that old yet.” Wanda had tears rolling down her face as she shook her head from side to side. “Momma, don’t cry please.” Starlina wiped the tears from her mother’s face and climbed in the bed next to her. “Shoot, maybe I’m getting old I can’t believe that I lost my balance.”

“Well, the doctor’s said that it’s your back and those spasms Momma.” The doctor’s wanted to do back surgery on Wanda to correct the degenerative disks that she had, but she had refused it over the last two years. However, her back pain had gotten worse and worse and the spasms affected her balance.

Wanda continued to cry and Starlina just rested her head on her mother’s shoulder and prayed for her healing and comfort. She had to find a way to convince her mother to move back to Ohio. It just wasn’t safe for her to live on her own any longer she felt.
